Therapy for Children and Teens

How it's different

Children do not express or have the development to process their feelings as adults do.   As a Registered Play Therapist, I use art and play to help children work through their problems through themes.  Although I am only using telehealth at the moment,  I am still able to use play therapy techniques.  For younger children, it may  be best to have you present for the process.

Teens also need connection in a different way than adults.  Teens often feel stuck between childhood and the expectations of an adult.  I am able to connect with teens on their level using art, games, and letting them show me their talents and interests.

All services include supportive time with their caregivers, with the appropriate time and frequency determined by the guardians and therapist. For younger children, especially in utilizing TF-CBT, I include a 15 minute caregiver session.  You are with your child far longer than I will be, and is important that you feel confident in helping your child.

Unless you are able to provide a court document showing your sole legal custody, both parents must be willing and able to sign consent to therapy, absent extenuating circumstances.

Immigration Support

Evaluations and Therapist Support letters

If you are in process of applying for Political Asylum, or were a victim of a crime in the United States and are applying for a T-Visa or U-Visa, it is likely your immigration attorney will require a letter of support and an evaluation from a licensed therapist.

Fees:

  • U-Visa,T-Visas, Political Asylum, Hardship Waivers: 2 hour session, comprehensive evaluation and letter. $600

Sessions and letters can be paid separately if not due immediately.  However payment for the letter must be completed prior to the therapist beginning the process of writing the evaluation.

During our initial consultation we will discuss if you are ready to immediately start the evaluation and assessment.  If you are not immediately ready to share your story we may require additional sessions to help prepare you emotionally.

If you want ongoing therapy and wish to have an evaluation letter completed later, we can discuss a reduced fee for weekly sessions.

Letters of support for Hormone Replacement Therapy and Gender Confirmation Surgery:

Our goal is not to be gatekeepers,

Megan has completed training in the pertinent information needed for letters of support for Hormone Replacement Therapy and Gender Confirmation Surgery.  Unfortunately, legislation has changed how therapists can provide these letters, and is state depending as well. Currently Missouri requires 15 hourly sessions of therapy over at least 18 months, does not have a diagnosis of autism and has had documented gender dysphoria for three years.  Letters for Kansas adolescents will have to continue to follow any legislation that occurs.   If your doctor or insurance company requires an adjustment in the letter that is completed free of charge.

50 minute Evaluation Session plus letter- $140

Typical copays apply if using insurance.
